VW Ameo will not be shared with Skoda India

Skoda rumored to re-introduce Fabia hatchback instead.

In an interview with Top Gear India, Dr Andreas Lauermann, President of VW India, has confirmed that the VW Ameo will not be shared with Skoda.

The VW Ameo is Volkswagen's first ever sub-4m sedan specifically targeting the Indian market.

He told Top Gear:

This is a car developed at Volkswagen as a Volkswagen for a segment Volkswagen wants to cover. And therefore, there are no plans for Skoda.

The VW Ameo is Volkswagen's first ever sub-4m sedan specifically targeting the Indian market. It is based on their best-seller, the VW Polo, and is expected to launch for sale next month. Prices for the Ameo will be announced on June 5, and it will be available with two engine options: 1.2 MPI petrol and updated 1.5 TDI diesel.

As for Skoda India, the company is more interested in re-introducing the Skoda Fabia hatchback in the Indian market, given the turnaround of the premium hatchback segment since the previous gen Fabia left the segment in 2013. It could be launched in the market within the next two years.
