Based on the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the MU-X is essentially the passenger carrying version of the latest gen D-Max sold in countries like Thailand (older D-Max is on sale in India), which in turn is based on the Chevrolet Colorado pickup. It measures 4,825 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,840 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,845 mm.
Similar to the Trailblazer sold in India, the Isuzu MU-X in other markets get 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, 6-speaker touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and navigation, roof-mounted 10-inch DVD monitor, climate control, split and fold second and third row seats, 12 cup holders and 19 cubby holes.
Under the hood is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel motor which delivers 136 PS (134.13 bhp) and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission, both of which are available in 4×2 and 4×4 variants. A 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is also offered in markets like Thailand.
In other news, Isuzu has suspended production at the Hindustan Motor plant in Thiruvallur in Chennai as its new plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh is getting ready take over the production load. The new plant will start production in April, and is expected to begin with an initial installed capacity of 50,000 units.
