Arrives on Indian soil for the first time, officially.

Overdrive reports that the Ford Mustang will launch in India on January 28, contradicting reports of a launch at the Auto Expo 2016.

The new Mustang will set up a niche 2-door segment in India and will be the first muscle car to officially launch in the country.

The reason the Mustang wasn't available in India all this while was attributed to its availability only as a left-hand-drive variant, until the current generation. With the new Mustang, Ford decided to enter new markets by offering it in right-hand-drive for the first time, with India being one of them.

Falling inline with reports of its launch in India were spyshots of an RHD 'Stang on Indian soil with tester plates. The model spotted was the Mustang GT Coupe, which packs a N/A 5.0-liter V8 engine paired to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels only. It's unclear if Ford India will also introduce the tradition defying Mustang EcoBoost variant, featuring a 2.3-liter four cylinder turbo petrol engine.

The new Mustang will set up a niche 2-door segment in India that – like any American muscle car – offers brute road presence and a powerful engine at a price tag likely cheaper than its European equivalents. It will be imported through the CBU route.
