The main highlight is the new engine under the hood, which is sourced from the 2016 Toyota Hilux Revo and 2016 Toyota Fortuner. The new 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine produces f 174 hp at 3,400 rpm and 420 Nm of torque between 1,400 to 2,600 rpm with a six-speed manual, and 450 Nm from 1,600 to 2,400 rpm with the 6-speed automatic. Toyota claims the new engine makes more power than the outgoing 3.0L diesel unit, while registering a low fuel consumption figure of just 7.9 L/100 km (8 L/100 km with the auto).
The petrol variant is powered by the same 4.0 litre V6 engine, which has been retuned to deliver 278 hp (up by 7 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 381 Nm at 4,400 rpm. Like the diesel, it will be offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
