The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been launched in Thailand, and is slated to be launched in India in the next financial year, possibly after its showcase at the 2016 Auto Expo. Here's a closer look at the SUV with images sent in by one of our Thai readers.
The exterior is sleek which belies the mass of the SUV. The front gets a twin-slat horizontal grille, slim swept-back headlights with projector units and LED DRLs, while the 12-spoke, 17-inch wheels give it a butch stance. The 'floating roof' design is the talking point here, giving the Fortuner a modern appeal.
Stepping inside, the dashboard is defined by the centrally-mounted infotainment screen. The multi-function four-spoke steering wheel gets controls for the audio and Bluetooth functions. Top of the line variants get leather seats and features such as reverse parking sensors, start downhill assist control and keyless entry.
The Thai-spec Fortuner also gets seven airbags, touchscreen infotainment system, rear-view camera, rear AC vents, cooled glove box, and disc brakes at the front & rear.
All-new engines from Toyota’s GD series power the 2016 Fortuner. The 2.4- and 2.8-liter diesel units replace the present 2.5- and 3.0-liter units. The 2.4-liter produces 148 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, while the 2.8-liter mill churns out 175 bhp and 450 Nm of pulling power. These are mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic units.
