Will arrive in India in 2016.
Toyota is all set to replace the aging Innova MPV with a next generation model that will make its global premiere later this year. An Indian launch is expected to take place next year. Way ahead of its Indian debut, Team BHP member "mroptimist" has shared some information on the Toyota Innova, giving us a clearer image of what to expect.
According to the member, production of the current Toyota Innova will end in three months time for the next gen Innova to take over. When launched in India, the Toyota Innova will, reportedly, be priced INR 1-1.5 lakhs more than the current model, and sales will be restricted to personal buyers for a year. The top-spec variant is not expected to cost more than INR 22 lakh, on-road.
For commercial buyers, however, Toyota will continue producing the current Innova in the popular GX variant for a year.
The only technical detail shared is that the Innova will offer either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, which will transmit power from Toyota's new GD range of diesel engines that include a 2.4-liter and a 2.8-liter. For increased localization, the engines will be manufactured at a new engine plant set up near Jigani, Karnataka.

The new Innova will be based on an all-new ladder-frame platform that also underpins the latest Hilux Revo and the upcoming Fortuner. The exterior and interior design, and equipment will be a step up over the previous model; highlights being a new car-like interior with premium touches and a new infotainment system with a large touchscreen display. For top variants, Toyota may also increase the safety equipment with features such as 7-airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, at least on the international variant.
Rivals: Renault Lodgy Chevrolet Enjoy, Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Nissan Evalia.
Expected Price: INR 9-15 lakhs, ex-Showroom
Launch Date: 2016 in India
