Petrol variants will launch in India this year.
Mitsubishi Motors North America's Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen, has told Car Advice that the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander facelift will debut at the New York Auto Show, in early April this year.
Unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the third generation Outlander is set to receive a major facelift inspired by the Outlander PHEV Concept S that was shown at the Paris Motor Show last October.
According to a recent report, Hindustan Motor Finance Corp (HMFCL), the company which deals with Mitsubishi products in India, is looking to launch the petrol variant of the Outlander in India this year. For 2015, HMFCL plans on introducing the Outlander petrol with manual and automatic transmissions, while a diesel variant will roll out next year.
The Outlander facelift, according to the report, will come with redesigned front and rear fascias, with a design similar to the PHEV concept. The interior will also be reworked with new dashboard trims and a touchscreen infotainment system.
Apart from a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Outlander facelift is expected to be powered by 2.0- and 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engines. The previous generation Outlander was in fact sold in India with the 2.4-liter petrol engine matched to a CVT gearbox.

It remains to be seen whether HMFCL imports or assembles the Outlander in India. The company currently assembles the Pajero Sport, the lone product for Mitsubishi in India at the moment.
