The exterior has smooth and sharp shapes found on modern fighter jets.
Kia Motors has released official images of the 2016 Sportage that is set to debut at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt on September 15.
The fourth generation model features a bold and progressive design. Up front, it gets Kia's ‘tiger-nose’ grille that is now lower and wider. The swept-back projector headlamps are not connected to the grille while the ‘ice-cube’ foglamps lend the front end a distinctive appeal. Silver metallic finish has been used to accentuate the grille and skid plate as well.
The sides get bumped-up wheel arches, while the rear sports a sleeker design drawing cues from 2013 Kia Provo concept. The posterior gets LED tail lamps joined by a chrome strip, shark-fin antenna, roof spoiler, dual exhausts, reverse light and turn indicators mounted on the rear bumper.
The interior is expected to get a premium design, with the center piece being the 7-inch screen for Kia’s UVO infotainment system. The steering wheel is reported to have been lifted from Kia’s Optima and features buttons to control functions related to telephony, audio system, and cruise-control.
Technical details have not been revealed yet, although the 2016 Sportage is reported to get two petrol and one diesel engine. The petrol unit will likely be a 1.2 T-GDi turbo and 1.6 GDi; the diesel mill will mostly be a 1.7 CRDi unit. These engines will be coupled to 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions, while a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox is also a possibility.
