Reports suggest that the next generation of the Honda Civic will be launched later this year, sporting a new design, technical features and range of engines. A precursor to that model was unveiled at the 2015 New York Auto Show as the bright green Civic Concept.

With the concept in mind, Headlight Magazine has created an unofficial render of the 2016 Honda Civic, giving us a first look at the next model with new elements. The design lines, as seen in the Civic Concept, are sleeker and add a sense of muscularity to the car's design. The roof line is more swooping than before, and features a new C-pillar design.

The next Civic will be based on a shortened version of the Honda Accord's (G9) platform, and is rumored to be a bit larger than the current model. Power is sourced from a new 1.5-liter "Earth Dreams VTEC Turbo" engine with direct injection along with Honda’s other unspecified engine options. It will come paired to a short-shifting 6-speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The 2016 Honda Civic will be launched in the U.S later this year, followed by Thailand in 2016. For the U.S market, Honda will launch the Civic in sedan, coupe and 5-door hatchback body-styles, as well as sporty variants such as the Si and Type-R. Without promising a re-entry, Honda discontinued the Civic in India due to flagging sales mainly due to the lack of a diesel variant and a shrinking share for the D-Segment sedan.
