Has its public premiere at the EICMA show next month.
Yamaha revealed the 2015 YZF-R3 late last night and announced its technical specifications. Here's a look at what the motorcycle brings to the table.
Power comes from a twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4v DOHC engine displacing 321 cc. This fuel-injected engine has its roots in the R25's 250 cc unit, reports say. The R3 makes an impressive 42 PS (41.4 hp) at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm, and is paired to a constant mesh 6-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle gets a diamond-type frame supported by telescopic forks at the front and a swing arm at the rear. The R3 is shod with a 110/70 17-inch tyre at the front and a 140/70 17-incher at the rear. Braking power comes from a 298 mm disc upfront and a 220 mm disc at the rear.
In terms of dimensions, the R3 measures 2,090 mm in length, 720 mm in width, 1,135 mm in height and 1,380 mm in wheelbase. It has a generous 160 mm ground clearance, and comes with a 14 liter fuel tank. With fuel and oil brimmed up, the R3 weighs 169 kg.
According to reports, the R3 is indeed India-bound, and will be positioned in the lower-premium motorcycle segment which sees players like the KTM RC200, RC390, the Ninja 300 and the newly launched Z250. Further details on the motorcycle will be available early next month at the EICMA show, where the R3 will have its public premiere.
