The first X6 was launched in India in 2009.
BMW India have announced the launch of the second generation BMW X6 for July 23, 2015. Unveiled in June 2014, the 2015 X6 will be BMW India's flagship SUV offering, and the carmaker's fourth offering in its 'X' line of products.
With a chassis consisting of high-strength steels, thermoplastics and aluminium, the 2015 X6 is 40 kg lighter than its predecessor, which was sold in India since 2009. The second generation X6 also continues to offer the traditional 50:50 weight distribution on the front and rear axles.
The 2015 X6 will continue to be sold in India through the CBU route. For the Indian market, the X6 is likely to be offered in the xDrive40d variant, which is powered by the 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder diesel engine capable of 313 hp and 630 Nm of torque, transferred to all wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The X6 xDrive40d accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and hits a top-speed limited to 240 km/h. According to EU tests, it is rated at 15.87 km/l.
