The Porsche Macan SUV has been discreetly launched in India at a starting price of INR 1 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).
The sub-Cayenne SUV from the Stuttgart-based sportscar manufacturer is positioned as a lifestyle product and promises more exclusivity than the Audi Q5, Mercedes ML Class and BMW X3.
The India-spec Macan is available with two engine options. The base variant is the Macan S diesel which is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine producing 258 PS (254.3 bhp) and 580 Nm of torque while the top-end Macan Turbo is powered by a 3.6-litre V6 petrol pumping out 400 PS (394.3 bhp) and 550 Nm of torque. Both the engines are paired to a 7-Speed Porsche PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Macan Turbo can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds while the Macan S diesel achieves the same in 6.3 seconds.
The Porsche Macan for the Indian market comes with standard features such as ride height adjustable air suspension system, all-wheel-drive, interior lighting package, bi-xenon headlamps, electrically operated tailgate and 3-Zone automatic climate control.
The Macan S diesel is priced at INR 1 crore and the Macan Turbo petrol variant retails at INR 1.1 crore (both prices are ex-showroom Delhi).
The global success of the Porsche Macan has left the carmaker struggling to plug the demand-supply gap. It is said that Porsche India has already found buyers for the allocated number of units for the year 2014.
