The Yamaha FZ-S FI V2.0 and the FZ FI V2.0 which were previewed at the Auto Expo in the form of a near production concept and spotted testing subsequently, have been launched at INR 76,250 and INR 78,250 respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).
The refreshed motorcycles have been given a styling makeover with quite a few upgrades such as new headlamp design, instrument console, tank extensions, split seats with new tail piece, taillight and license plate holder, revised silencer end can and color options. Other visual changes include new split grab rails and a tyre hugging splatter guard. Just like the current lineup, the FZ FI V2.0 makes do without the visor and body decals.
The biggest upgrade of all is the adoption of fuel injection system. Under the new 'BlueCore' technology, Yamaha has improved the combustion efficiency and reduced the power loss in addition to adding fuel injection system.
Surprisingly, the displacement has been reduced to 149 cc from 153 cc and this has resulted in drop of output to 13.1 PS and 12.8 Nm of torque compared to the old bikes' 14 PS and 13.6 Nm respectively. However, Yamaha claims that the performance is unaffected and the new bikes offer 14% better fuel efficiency than its predecessor while the overall emission has been reduced (carbon + Nox) by 33%.
The new FZ-S and FZ are 3 kg lighter than the outgoing model. The tyre sizes have been retained but the rubbers feature new tread patterns and belt design for improved puncture resistance and grip.
The duo is the most affordable fuel injected bikes in the 150 cc segment. Other products include the stablemate R15 V2.0 and the Honda CBR150R, both of which carry price tags northwards of INR 1 lakh.
The FZ V2.0 series would hold the fuel injected engine as its trump card against the intended rivals such as the Honda CB Trigger and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer.
