The next generation 2014 Mini was revealed yesterday at its Oxford plant in the United Kingdom. Built on parent BMWs new front wheel drive UKL architecture, the new model is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than the outgoing generation, while its wheelbase is stretched by 42mm to 2,495mm.
In India, models such as the Mini and the Mini Convertible are sold as CBUs (Completely Built-up Units), while the Mini Countryman is assembled at the BMW plant in Chennai from CKD kits.
Speaking to IndianAutosBlog.com recently on the Indian launch of the 2014 Mini, Mr. Philipp von Sahr, president of BMW India, said -
As soon as possible of course. Mini has a huge success in India. We hope that it will also be launched during 2014.
Given that the 2012 Auto Expo saw Mini enter India, there's a good chance that BMW could showcase the new Mini at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. Global sales of the new Mini begins in March next year.
The new Mini was announced with three engine options and two gearbox options. The petrol range consists of a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, while the diesel model gets its power from a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
