The 2014 Mercedes S Class is expected to be the new industry benchmark when it comes to business class limousines.
The flagship Merc saloon would be aiming for nothing less than the "best car in the world" title and this automatically makes it one of the most eagerly anticipated saloons of the year. We have more details about the luxury liner, thanks to a leaked presentation slide, courtesy of Worldcarfans.com (the image of the presentation has been taken down upon request).
The website reports that the new S Class would enter production in August and hit the road in September. The top of the line S550 4MATIC and the S63 AMG 4MATIC would follow a few months later.
The S Class features extensive aluminum components such as the roof and bonnet to keep weight in check. As many as 11 exterior color options are offered with new shades namely Diamond Silver, Ruby Black and Anthracite Blue.
On the inside, the cabin would get a generous mix of wood and leather. There is a choice of Burl Walnut, Myrtle Sunburst, Black Popular and Metalized Ash wooden panels. You can also choose regular leather, Nappa leather and designo leather for the seats. The cabin gets ambient lighting and a Burmester audio system would be on offer. The leaked document talks about "dramatic reduction" of the cabin noise, so expect the cabin to be hush hush.
There will be two 12.3" touchscreen displays, one will be used as the instrument cluster while the other will cater to the COMAND infotainment system. The COMAND system incorporates GPS navigation, iPod/MP3 playback and mbrace2 functionality.
Rear seat comfort will be further enhanced with 10 way electrically adjustable seat with powered foot rest. The car gets Active seatbelts along with rear airbags for added safety. The limousine is equipped with Magic Body Control system which scans road imperfections ahead to prepare the suspension in advance.
Worldcarfans.com reports that the new S Class could be unveiled at a private event in Germany on May 15th.
