BMW India is gearing up to launch the next generation of its X5 SUV this year. The 2014 BMW X5, shown at the 2014 Auto Expo, will have its market launch in June this year, as communicated to Indian Autos Blog by Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President of BMW India.

Unlike the older X5 which was brought into the country via the CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route, the new X5 will be assembled from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits at BMW India's Chennai facility. The new X5 is currently made only at BMWs Spartanburg plant located in the USA.
Indian assembly of the X5 is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks, BMW India's Marketing Director, Mr. Frank Schlöder, told Indian Autos Blog last month.
The new X5 will mostly be launched in the xDrive30d variant which is powered by a straight-six cylinder diesel engine displacing 2,993 cc. This engine produces 258 hp at 4,000 rpm and 560 Nm of torque between 1,500-3,000 rpm and uses an 8-speed automatic gearbox to transmit power to all four wheels.

The xDrive30d can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds while the top-speed is rated at 230 km/h. BMW has already started showcasing the new X5 to prospective customers with its experience program which is taking place in various cities across India.
