The 2014 BMW X5 was announced in May this year, following which production at BMWs American facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, started in early August. Now in its third generation, the X5 saw BMWs entry into the SUV and crossover segment, following which models such as the X3, X6 and X1 were introduced.
When asked about the new X5's Indian introduction, Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President of BMW India, said -
We would also like to have it in India and we are just planning to introduce it.
The X5 is sold in India as a CBU (Completely Built up Unit) and is available with a single engine option in the xDrive30d spec. This variant is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 240 hp and 540 Nm of torque, enough to accelerate the SUV from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The current X5 costs INR 80.6 lakhs ex-Showroom.
The Spartanburg facility is the sole production house for the new X5 and as a result, India would also get the car either as a CBU or as a CKD from this plant.
