Indian Autos Blog has learned that the 2014 BMW M3 has finished homologation formalities in India. There is no official word on the launch, but Mr. Philip von Sahr, president of BMW India, said at a recent press meet that 2014 "would be the year of the 'M' models."
BMW India offers one 'M' model - the BMW M6 Gran Coupe - and is learned that the M5 facelift and the M4 would also be introduced in a short while. BMW India had earlier said that these high performance models will be brought to customer experience centers to be driven by prospective customers, and kindle interest ahead of their introductions.
The M3 is the performance version of the 3 Series. It was unveiled this year at the Detroit Auto Show.
The M3 gets an aggressive makeover to its exterior with modified bumpers, redesigned side skirts and ventilated front fenders. The sedan is fitted with carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof, sport-tuned suspension, Active M Differential and electronic power steering with three modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport+.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine that makes 431 hp and 550 Nm of torque married to a six-speed manual gearbox. It takes the car from 0-100 km/h in only 4.1 seconds, and is available with an optional seven-speed M double-clutch transmission. Top speed is electronically restricted to 250 km/h but the installation of the M Driver's Package boosts it to 280 km/h.
