The Honda Mobilio Prototype, Honda's first low cost MPV that will be sold throughout Asia has premiered at the Indonesia International Motor Show. This is also the first model from Honda developed for the Indonesian market.
Takanobu Ito, President, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director Honda Motor Co., Ltd -
Honda Mobilio is especially designed based on Indonesian customer needs. I believe Honda Mobilio would fulfill Indonesian customers dream of an affordable family car with high standard quality from Honda.
The low cost MPV segment enjoys the lion's share of the Indonesian auto market with 32%. The affordable three-row capacity vehicles like the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia and the Suzuki Ertiga compose the top 5 best selling vehicles, which the Honda Mobilio will compete against. Honda expects many Mobilio customers to be first time car buyers.
The Mobilio is 4.4m long, 1.68m wide, 1.61m tall with a wheelbase measuring 2.65m long. It has a class-leading ground clearance of 185mm, and its 1.5-liter petrol engine is the most powerful in its category.
Tomoki Uchida, President Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor -
Honda Mobilio will be the special model for Honda in Indonesia because it is specifically designed to meet the needs of consumers and the character of the road in Indonesia. Honda Mobilio will be assembled in Indonesia, and become the first model of our New Factory in Karawang targeted to operate in early 2014.
The design concept of the Mobilio is “Dual Solid Motion” that "combines a strong stance and expresses strength with dynamic feeling." The car is recognizable from the front as a cousin to the Brio through its leaf-shaped headlamps and single slab chrome grille. The side profile is accentuated by a "lightning-bolt beltline" while the rear features a high-mounted 6-LED stoplamp. The show car, which is represents almost 100% of the production car, is mounted on 15-inch aluminium-alloy rims.
The cabin is familiar to India as the dashboard and front seats are borrowed from the Amaze. The show car features a dual tone beige and black color combination throughout the interior. The height of the roof is slightly for the second and third row passengers, and dedicated air-conditioning vents are provided above the first and second row.
The Mobilio is powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine which produces 118PS @ 6,600 rpm and a torque 144NM @ 4,800 rpm that comes paired either to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. The turning radius of the car is 5.2m.
Safety features such as ABS + EBD braking system, Dual front Airbags, and Pretensioner Seatbelt with Load Limiter are offered depending on the variant.
Bookings for the Honda Mobilio have started, with prices ranging between 150-180 million rupiah (8.23 lakh to 9.27 lakh rupees). Following its global debut here at IIMS, the car will be displayed in major cities across Indonesia.
