Scheduled to make its global debut in the UK by the second week of September, the classic retro Cafe Racer style sportsbike will hit Indian roads a little later, probably in the month of October. Apart from being the country of Royal Enfield's origin, England is also one of the largest export markets for the brand which is under the wings of Eicher Motors.
A recent broadcast from BBC World confirms that the Continental GT has commenced production. Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO of Eicher Motors explains the brand's journey in the video and you can see the soon-to-be launched motorcycle moving along the assembly line in the background.
The Cafe Racer is idiosyncratic in more than one way compared to the other thumpers in the current lineup. For starters, the riding position of the Continental GT is aggressive and race focused while the other Bullets offer a relaxed and upright posture. Then comes the new fuel injected 535cc single-cylinder liquid cooled engine that is expected to be the most powerful unit in the current portfolio.
The bike is reported to be at least 15kg lighter than any other contemporary Royal Enfield. This also makes it the most dynamic and the fastest RE in recent times.
