After setting the sales charts on fire as the Number 1 selling car in India, the Maruti Alto 800 is making its way into Chile.
The Alto 800 joins its other sibling, the Alto K10 and even the Swift Dzire as a Made-in-India car being imported into the local Chile market. Maruti makes the Alto 800 in a left hand drive variant, strips the Maruti badges and exports the car, it's that simple.
The Alto 800 has been launched in three variants for Chile - the base GL, DLX and the DLX with AC. The mechanicals remain the same however, it's the same 3 cylinder 796cc petrol motor producing 47bhp of power mated to the 5-speed manual transmission.
In terms of features, the Alto 800 is pretty spartan even in Chile. The top two models get power steering and central locking while a CD/MP3 player is offered in all variants. None of the models get safety features such as airbags or even ABS for that matter.
Inside the cabin, the only difference is the positioning of the steering wheel since it is on the left hand side. Otherwise, everything else remains the same. The Alto 800 is being offered in the same six exterior colors as the Indian market.
The official importers of the Alto 800 are Derco, who have a lot of experience in importing cars from various brands. Derco estimates about 4,000 units per annum in terms of sales of the Alto 800 in Chile.
