Land Rover unveiled the all-new Range Rover Sport at the 2013 New York Auto Show with Daniel Craig a.k.a James Bond having driven it through the streets of the Big Apple.
While global deliveries of the Range Rover Sport are yet to commence, CarDekho reports that the SUV will be launching in India in September. Mr. Rohit Suri, Jaguar Land Rover India's head, has confirmed this in an interview with them.
The Range Rover Sport is the sportiest and most dynamic Land Rover ever made. The key difference between the Range Rover Sport and the bigger Range Rover comes in the form of extra seats. While the Range Rover can seat up to 5 adults, the Sport has an additional third row of seats that can seat two people.
Land Rover say that the Range Rover Sport will be as good off-road as it is on it. It comes courtesy of the Land Rover's Terrain Response System with an 'Auto' function.
The new Range Rover Sport is built on the Land Rover Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) and boasts of a drag co-efficient of 0.34 which is really good for an SUV.
There are three engine options available. The base engine is a 3.0-liter TDV6 diesel pumping 258bhp of power and doing 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds. The next engine option is the 3.0-liter SDV6 diesel producing 292bhp of power and doing 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds. The range topper is a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 503bhp and rivaling a supercar to the 100km/h mark at just 5 seconds.
The prices for the Range Rover Sport are expected to start at about 90 lakh rupees.
