Nissan X-trail facelift goes on sale in Malaysia
As a toddler, those wheeled machinery fascinated me even before I knew what they’re called as! So here I’m, petrolhead by birth, Mechanical engineer by qualification and automotive reporter by profession!
The Nissan X-Trail is one of the first Nissan models to come to our shores. The SUV, in spite of offering a capable package, failed to generate volumes in the Indian market.
The quirky design could be one of the reasons for the X-Trail’s lackluster sales performance in India. Also a steep price tag and a lack of third row of seats burried the merits of the refined diesel engine and strong dynamics.
Nissan is ready to address the issues with the next generation X-Trail which will feature a whole new design based on the Hi-Cross Concept which was showcased at last year’s Geneva Motor Show. And the car would seat seven passengers, making it ideally suited for Indian market.
Meanwhile, a mildly updated Nissan X-Trail has been launched in Malayasia. The car sports a reprofiled front bumper and a new grill. Going with the trend, the headlamps get LED daytime running lights. The rear fascia continues to stay the same except that the taillights now employ LEDs.
The interior gets black finish and comes with a 6″ touchscreen multimedia infotainment system with navigation, reverse camera, Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity.

The 2.0 litre petrol engine which is mated to a X-CVT automatic gearbox is the only powertrain option available in the facelifted SUV. The car is priced at 148,000 Malaysian Ringgit (around Rs. 26.44 lakhs).
It remains to be seen whether the facelifted Nissan X-Trail will come to Indian shores or not. This is expected to be the last facelift for the current X-trail as the new generation car is expected in the near future.
