Volkswagen Brazil has taken the wraps off their two mass market products in a refreshed avatar – Gol and Voyage. The Volkswagen Gol is a very important model for Brazil.
The Gol has been the bestselling car for the last 30 years, selling more than 5 million examples in Brazil. The car is named Gol because of Brazil’s passion for football (Gol means ‘Goal’ in Portuguese).
The new iteration is based on the VW Polo’s platform. This mid-life facelift gives the car an all-new front fascia similar to the VW Polo. It features a new grille, bumper and headlamp design. The rear is also redesigned featuring new bumper and tail lamps. The VW Gol’ front-end is sleeker, giving it a sporty stance that the predecessor missed.
The interiors have not been changed by much. It features new lighting and trim décor on the dashboard. The controls have been enhanced to give an improved feel and better ergonomics. It also features an upgraded audio system with USB input as well as front and rear parking sensors.
2013 VW Gol engine lineup
- New 1.0-liter mill that makes 76 hp
- A 1.6L engine that makes 104 hp
Both engines can run on petrol and ethanol because of Brazil's fuel system. There is also a BlueMotion variant with a 1.0L engine that gets low resistance tyres.
Just like our VW Polo has a sister sedan called VW Vento, the Brazilian cousin also gets a partner in the form of an updated Voyage. The Voyage gets all the features of the Gol and some more to target people who require that extra bootspace.
