Audi Q3 heads to Malaysia to repeat the India success story

Kaustubh Shinde, They say sooner or later your passion finds you. Sometime in late 2009, I started writing for IAB and ever since then it has been a roller coaster ride for me. An amazing experience that has taught me a lot, taken me to new places, driven some great cars and met some amazing people. When you don't find me on IAB (very rarely), you will find me either at a coffee shop or an eatery or at the nearest gadget store. Hope you enjoy IAB as much as we do!

Sold out in 5 days after launch – You know which car we’re talking about.

The Q3 is a pancake with four rings on it. All the 500 units that were allocated to India were sold in just 5 days of its launch. The second lot of cars are now available for booking and as per what we’ve heard, they’re also disappearing fast.

After receiving such immense interest in India, the Audi Q3 heads eastwards to Malaysia. Euromobil officially launched the Audi Q3 in Malaysia in the range of RM258k – RM279k (around 45 -48 lakhs INR).

They only get a petrol engine – a 2.0 litre TFSI engine that makes 170 hp at 6,300 rpm and 280 Nm of torque at 4,200rpm.

It is mated to a seven-speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission sending power to all four wheels. With this engine, the Q3 does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.8 seconds and all the way to the top whack of 212 km/h.

Standard equipment include:

  • Xenon plus headlamps
  • Anti-glare and heated wing mirrors
  • Headlight washers
  • Leatherette seats
  • Six airbags
  • ESP
  • Light/rain sensor
  • Parking aid plus with park display
  • Cruise control
  • Start stop
  • Audi concert radio system

There is also a S line package which includes a three-spoke steering wheel, Alcantara seats, S line door sills, chrome fog lamp surrounds, chrome grille slats, and 18-inch alloys with a cooler design.

Like India, Malaysia gets the Q3 as a CBU unit imported from Martorell plant in Spain. The difference is in due course of time, the Q3 will be locally assembled in India, but prices will not fall.

Mercedes India is all set to introduce the B Class MPV in India this month as India’s first Sports Tourer to compete with the X1 and Q3. Whereas the B-Class is not an SUV, it will be launched in more or less the same price bracket as the X1 and Q3.
