Volkswagen Racing South Africa showcased their latest Polo S2000 rally car. This one takes the place of the S2000 which was based on the Polo Vivo (earlier generation model). The new cars are made at the Uitenhage plant from ground up and are not re-structured or modified production cars as it used be done.
The parts are also manufactured locally by re-engineering and then tested to make sure they can withstand the competition's conditions. Power comes from the 2 litre, four cylinder engine which produces around 270bhp and 250Nm of torque which gets transferred to all the four wheels via a Sadev 4/45 six-speed sequential gearbox.
Interiors get systems and equipment that are constructed according to aviation specifications. The new Polo S2000 is based on the five door MK5 Polo but is 15mm wider and has a 8mm longer wheelbase than the production version of the same car.
