Bookings will open in April, reportedly.
Although VW had confirmed that the Tiguan SUV will launch in India this year, they hadn't divulged a specific timeframe of launch. Car and Bike believes that the second gen Tiguan will arrive in showrooms across India in this May.
The Tiguan will be VW's only SUV offering in India, slotting in the premium monocoque SUVs that comprise of the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. It could be locally assembled at VW's plant in Pune, along with the upcoming VW Passat. We reckon that the Tiguan's pricing could range between INR 23 Lakhs - INR 30 Lakhs.
The Tiguan will become VW's first MQB-based product to launch in India. It measures 4,486 mm long, 1,839 mm wide and 2,095 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,677 mm. It's a strict 5-seater and has 615L of cargo space, which can be increased to 1,655 litres with the rear seats down.

The Tiguan's engine lineup is likely to comprise of petrol and diesel options. The latter is certain to pack a 2.0 TDI 4-cyl turbodiesel engine, which produces 140 kW (190 PS/188 hp) and 400 Nm of torque. As for the former, a likely engine option could be the 1.4L TSI engine with 110 kW (150 PS/147 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. It's unlikely that a manual gearbox will be offered, so expect both variants to come equipped with a 7-speed DSG, while the 4MOTION AWD system could be exclusive to the diesel variant.
