Indian Autos Blog reported on September 4th this year that VW India's Chakan plant would soon start exporting the VW Vento to Mexico. As it turns out, the car has just gone on sale in Mexico as the VW Polo Sedan.
The Polo Sedan will replace the VW Clasico (the old Bora) in Mexico. Surprisingly, VW Mexico will sell the petrol and the diesel variants of the Polo Sedan, even though the market for diesel-powered vehicles is relatively small.
In terms of powertrain, the Polo Sedan is identical to the Vento sold here in India. The petrol version is powered by the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 104bhp and 15.6kgm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a TipTronic function.
The diesel variant gets the same four-cylinder 1.6-liter TDI producing 104bhp and 25.5kgm of torque transmitted to the front wheels using a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The local media report that the trim lines would be christened Style, Active and Highline, as compared to the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline that is sold in India. Reports also indicate that all variants would come with ABS and dual front airbags as part of the standard equipment. It would take until November for the first units to reach dealer showrooms though.
Prices for the Polo Sedan have been fixed at 179,900 Pesos (INR 8.41 lakhs) for the base petrol and 207,000 Pesos (INR 9.67 lakhs) for the base diesel model.
