Unlike the Thai market where the Toyota Yaris Ativ sells alongside the Toyota Vios, in Laos, instead of giving the Vios the due facelift, Toyota has replaced it with the Yaris Ativ. Toyota has launched the Yaris Ativ as the all-new Toyota Vios in the country.
The actual Toyota Vios is a more premium offering than the Toyota Yaris Ativ and a proper Honda City rival. The Toyota Yaris Ativ is bigger yet relatively cheaper, and more of a Nissan Sunny (Nissan Almera) competitor.
The Laos-spec Toyota Vios (Toyota Yaris Ativ) employs the 1NR-FE engine instead of the 2NR-FE engine that powers the Thai-spec version. The 1.3-litre Dual VVT-i petrol mill produces 99 PS at 6,000 rpm and 123 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission sends power to the wheels.

Toyota offers the all-new Vios in Laos in E and G grades. Electrically adjustable ORVMs, 6.8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, six speakers, parking sensors, seven airbags, VSC, HAC and ABS with EBD and BA are standard. More features, including halogen projector headlamps, leather steering wheel, push-button start, automatic climate control, leather gearshift knob, and parking camera, are available in the G grade.
