Just days ahead of the Toyota Yaris' first anniversary in Thailand, its first market, Toyota has announced that it has sold more than 31,000 units of this sedan within a year. Sold as the Toyota Yaris ATIV in the country, the eco car was launched at BIG Motor Sale 2017 that took place from 19-27 August, 2017.
Powering the Thail-spec Toyota Yaris ATIV is the 3NR-FE 1.2-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 86 PS along with a peak torque of 108 Nm. The engine comes mated to a CVT. The Toyota Yaris ATIV on sale in Thailand measures 4,425 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and a ground clearance of 133 mm.
The Yaris ATIV comes with a host of features, including projector headlamps with LED light guides, LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), and alloy wheels. On the inside, it offers Leather door trim, shift knob and steering wheel, Optitron instrument panel with 4.2-inch MID and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DVD player and six speakers.
The Yaris ATIV comes with a host of safety features as well, including rear parking sensors, reverse camera, seven airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Stability Control, Hill Assist Control and Traction Control. It's on sale in five trim levels - S, G, E, J and J ECO. Prices start from 4,69,000 baht (INR 9,90,293.50).
The Toyota Yaris was launched in India in April this year. It's available with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 108 PS and 140 Nm. Akin to its Thai-spec sibling, it offers seven airbags across all its trims. In India, the Toyota Yaris rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna.
In July 2018, Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 1,400 units of the Yaris. Cumulative sales stand at 7,747 units currently, and if there's no improvement going further, we don't expect a number as good as in Thailand when the sedan completes one year in our market.
