December 2018 was a good month for Toyota Kirloskar Motor, and not because of the Yaris, its most recent launch. It was because of the Toyota Innova Crysta, which received a whopping 11,200 bookings.

With 11,200 units booked, the Toyota Innova Crysta fetched TKM over INR 2,200 crore in December 2018, as per a report from The Economic Times. The booking number is almost double the average monthly sales of the MPV over the last calendar year. While the data released by Autopunditz showed that the sales for CY2018 stood at 78,130, this report says that the yearly volume was over 80,000 units.

In December 2018, TKM had introduced ‘Remember December’ campaign with offers for the Etios, Liva, Yaris, and Fortuner, but the not the Innova Crysta, which is its best-selling model in the country. “In the month of December 2018 we have witnessed high orders to the extent of 11,000 plus for Innova Crysta which is almost 50% jump as compared to the average monthly orders,” N Raja, MD, TKM, told The Economic Times on the latest development.

The Toyota Innova Crysta was expected to face heat from the much lower-priced Mahindra Marazzo that was launched in September 2018. While the former costs INR 15.18 lakh* onwards, the latter’s entry-price, at INR 14.06 lakh*, is INR 4.07 lakh* lower. However, the king of MPVs in India has remained unaffected. The all-new Maruti Ertiga was also launched last year, but it falls in a lower segment and is not direct competition.
