The Safari Storme has been fielded after a long wait and Tata has planned a phased nation wide launch. The car will be gradually made available through Tata Motors' 282 dealerships and 33 exclusive UV dealerships across the country.
Though the new SUV resembles the old Safari a lot, there has been lots of changes and improvements under the skin. The Safari Storme is based on Aria's chassis and employs hydroformed members in its construction.
With the new manufacturing technology, Tata's engineers have managed to achieve about 2.5 times more stiffness than the old Safari's chassis while reducing the weight by around 70 kgs.
Under the hood lies an improved version of the 2.2 litre diesel motor which is dubbed as VARICOR. At 140 bhp, the engine develops as much power as the older car but feels more responsive and quick owing to reduced weight. Tata claims a 0-100 kmph figure of less than 15 seconds.
The car is available in four variants - LX, EX, VX (4x2 and 4x4), in seven exterior color options – Urban Bronze, Sardinia Red, Pearl White, Pearl Champagne, Astern Black, Arctic White, Arctic Silver.
The Tata Safari Storme comes with a warranty of 3 years or 100,000kms (whichever is earlier) extendable upto 4 years or 150,000 kms.
The Tata Safari Storme's price range starts from Rs. 9.95 lakhs (ex-showroom Thane).
