The Tata Harrier was already available with Android Auto, and now, with a software update, it has gained Apple CarPlay, images posted by Facebook user Devanshu Kushwaha have revealed.
The Tata Harrier was introduced with two different touchscreen infotainment systems: Floating Island 7-inch unit and Floating Island 8.8-inch unit. Of the four equipment lines XE, XM, XT and XZ, the XM and XT grades feature the smaller unit, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included in only the latter. Seen in the images here, is the bigger infotainment system of the range-topping XZ grade. Thanks to the new software version 'Q5_R09.02', it supports not only Android Auto but also Apple CarPlay. Whether the smaller infotainment system has also received a similar software update that enables Apple CarPlay support in the XT grade is yet to be known.
Built on a modified version of the Jaguar Land Rover-derived D8 platform, the Tata Harrier is a C-SUV like the Jeep Compass. It packs FCA's 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine, albeit with 'Kryotec' branding, in a tune of 140 PS at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, but an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai will be introduced later.
On the outside, the Tata Harrier features a two-tier front light setup comprising LED DRLs that double as turn indicators mounted separately above HID Xenon projector headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels and LED tail lights. Interior highlights, apart from a large touchscreen infotainment system, include semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch colour TFT display, semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch colour TFT display and 9-speaker JBL sound system, Benecke-KalikoT Oak Brown perforated leather seat upholstery and door pad inserts.
The Tata Harrier comes equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Electronic Traction Control and many more safety features.
