Tata Harrier was launched on 23 January 2019 as a five-seater mid-size SUV in India. After its first update in 2020, the Harrier has started to gain momentum and generate a decent sales volume.
In terms of features, Tata Harrier is loaded to the full with many segment-leading features. As for the exterior, the Harrier comes with Xenon HID headlamps with LED DRLs up front, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and LED taillights. On the inside, it gets some highlights like an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-speaker JBL sound system,7-inch coloured MID, panoramic sunroof, climate control, keyless entry with push-button start and more.
About the safety, the Harrier is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, electronic stability control, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Tata Harrier is available in nine variants – XE, XM, XMA, XT, XT+, XZ, XZA, XZ+, and XZA+. It comes with six monotone colour options including Calypso Red, Orcus White, Sparkle Cocoa, Telesto Grey, Atlas Black and Camo Green. In addition, Tata added two other colour option for the top-spec variants, all-black Dark Edition and Camo Edition.
Under the hood, Tata Harrier was powered by a BSVI-compliant Kryotech 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that puts out top specs of 170 PS and 350 Nm. This engine is either a 6-speed torque converter or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Earlier, the Harrier has increased the prices of the Harrier by up to Rs 36,400. Tata Harrier is now priced from Rs 14.29 lakh to Rs 20.81 lakh. Tata Harrier commands a premium over the other compact SUVs in the market like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Its pricing matches the higher variants of these models and is comparable with other premium SUVs like Jeep Compass or Mahindra XUV500.
According to some reports, Tata Harrier is about to receive its yearly update soon. Tata Harrier 2021 updates will come in the form of a new petrol engine. The expected new engine is an in-house-developed 1.6-litre turbo petrol unit. This engine is like to offer the top power of 160 BHP and 250 Nm. It is said that the new engine will come with a direct injection system that will significant improve the performance and fuel efficiency of the engine. It is also the first direct-injection unit to be developed by the Harrier.
Both manual and DCT unit will be available as transmission options. It is expected that the Tata Harrier petrol-manual version of this engine will hit the market first and the automatic version will be launched later on. There are also rumour about the hybrid version of the Harrier.
Along with the new engine, it is also likely to get new colour options, including Harbor Blue just like in Tata Altroz. However, expect no change regarding the interior design.
There is no official information regarding the new Tata Harrier launch date but we expect Tata to deliver the new version by the end of 2021 or earlier 2022.
The launch of the Tata Harrier petrol is expected to offer more affordable alternatives to the diesel version. The petrol variants are likely to cost 1 lakh less than their diesel counterparts.
