Brazil - India-bound Suzuki SX4 S-Cross shown with a dual-tone exterior

Brazil will get the S-Cross from Suzuki's Hungarian plant.

Suzuki of Brazil conducted the local premiere of the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross at the ongoing 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show. The show car featured a two-tone brown and white exterior, a customization option that could be extended to the crossover when it launches in Brazil early next year.

India will also get the S-Cross in the same period, and its local premiere was held at the 2014 Auto Expo.

The S-Cross for Brazil is announced to launch in three variants - 4x2 MT, 4x4 MT and 4x4 AT. All variants will be powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing about 120 bhp and 155 Nm of torque. The gearbox for the Brazilian buyer would either be a 5-speed manual or a CVT unit. The Brazilian media report that the S-Cross will be imported from Suzuki's Magyar plant in Hungary.

For India though, the crossover would be made at the Manesar plant in Haryana, and a diesel variant will obviously be offered, apart from a petrol, and possibly even a CNG.

The SX4 S-Cross will be the first compact crossover from Maruti. Later in 2016 a sub-4 meter SUV based on the XA-Alpha will join the range, while the year 2018 could see the larger Vitara SUV joining the stable.
