According to German news agency RP Online, the all-new Suzuki Ignis will go on sale in Germany next year. It will be the second all-new Suzuki product for the German market, as the company plans to introduce the Baleno hatchback in the first half of 2016.
The Ignis, referred to as Suzuki's entrant in the small crossover segment, had its public premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show last month. Based on an all-new lightweight platform which promises 30 percent better stiffness and 15 percent reduction in weight, the Ignis measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, and 1,595 mm in height.
Under its hood, the show car was powered by the 1.25-liter DualJet petrol engine, paired to a CVT gearbox and a 4WD system. However, base variants of the Ignis are expected with a standard front wheel drive arrangement. The Ignis also featured Suzuki's SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild-hybrid system.
According to sources, the Ignis will make its entry into India sometime towards end-2016 or in early-2017. Maruti plans on showcasing the Ignis at the Auto Expo 2016, reportedly, to gauge public interest and potential of the product.
