Two years after Subaru launched the limited edition WRX STi S207, the Japanese manufacturer has unveiled a newer version - Subaru WRX STI S208 - at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show today. However, like the S207, the WRX STI S208 will be sold exclusively in Japan. What's even worse is that only 450 units will be available for sale, and customers will be picked by a lottery system.
Compared to the S207, the WRX STI S208 has a new front bumper with larger air inlets and a carbon fibre roof for lighter weight and lower centre of gravity. Some of the features we've seen in the S207 also make the cut, such as 19-inch black wheels, an exclusive large front apron, mesh grille with red accents, and gloss black side sill extensions. It also has fixed rear wing made from dry carbon fibre.
Inside, the WRX STI S208 comes with Recaro front bucket seats, a sporty set of instrument dials, red colour seat belts, and bright red trim across the dashboard and door cards.
Under the hood is a re-tuned version of the JDM-spec WRX STI’s 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four that produces 328 PS at 7,200 rpm and 432 Nm of torque delivered between 3,200–4,800 rpm. It is only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and power is sent to all four wheels via a symmetrical AWD system.
Other mechanical enhancements include Brembo 6-pot brakes in front and 4-pot brakes at the rear with drilled rotors, front-rear Active Torque Vectoring, and adjustable damping.
