Last month, Skoda launched the Rapid in a Rider Edition at a price tag of INR 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to make it more accessible temporarily. The company says that the Rapid Rider Edition has struck the right chords with the Indian audience and it's been receiving an overwhelming response for the limited edition model.

The Skoda Rapid Rider is available with only a 1.6-litre petrol engine.

While the Rider Edition is based on the base-spec Active petrol manual variant, and packs all the regular features such as 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, remote central locking, front and rear power windows, manual air conditioner and electrically adjustable ORVMs. But the fact that it is priced almost INR 1 lakh less than the entry-level variant seems to have hit the bull's eye. Skoda is excited about the response and is looking into the possibility of making the Rapid Rider Edition a regular offering, which means that the entry-price of the Rapid would permanently be very close to that of the sub-4 metre sedans.

"We have received an overwhelming response for the limited edition Rapid Rider Edition and are working tirelessly towards facilitating our customers' requests. We will certainly explore the option of making it a regular offering in the future." Zac Hollis, Director of Sales and Marketing, Skoda India, told Zigwheels recently.

The Skoda Rapid Rider comes in Candy White and Carbon Steel exterior paint shades. In terms of exteriors, it is differentiated from the regular model with blacked-out design elements which also contributes to its sporty looks. Its front is decorated with an all-black grille, while at the sides it comes with blacked-out B-pillars, trunk lip and black door decals. The wheel size remains unchanged at 15-inch as seen on the base Rapid Active trim.

Also, it is not skimmed on the safety features despite the fact it is considerably cheaper. It is equipped with rear parking sensors, anti-glare interior rearview mirror, dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), rear windscreen defogger with timer, height-adjustable front three-point seatbelts, rough road package and an engine immobilizer with a floating code system.
