The redesigned Skoda Fabia, that premiered globally at the Paris Motor Show 2014, is now available in the Chinese market with prices starting at ¥69,900 (INR 7.05 lakhs). At the launch, the car is being offered with two engine options. The base variant is powered by a 1.4-liter engine while the high-end variants use a 1.6-liter unit.
Skoda is targeting the young buyer by offering a wide range of color options and styling packages on the new Fabia. The hatchback comes in over 12 different shade and combinations. Customers also get the option of a contrast roof much like the Mini Cooper.
The chiseled front-end boasts of a waterfall grille with the Skoda logo on top. Headlamp elements have been revised on the new model, while the rear sports stylish C-shaped tail lamps. Step inside the car and the interior too has been completely redone. The dashboard looks more sleeker than before and there's enough space for four adults and their luggage.
China gets two engines options on the new Fabia. The entry-level trims use a 1.4-liter petrol engine that generates 90 hp and 132 Nm of torque. All automatic variants get the more powerful 1.6-liter engine that puts out 110 hp and 155 Nm of peak torque. This engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The Fabia top-spec variant which is only available with an automatic gearbox and costs ¥109,900 (INR 11.09 lakhs).
Skoda also showcased their latest Fabia R5 rally car at Auto Shanghai 2015. The car was shown in its competition livery for the first time and boasts of a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine mated a 5-speed sequential gearbox. This car is equipped with all-wheel drive to tackle the tough rally stages it is about to enter.
“We are delighted that the International Automobile Federation, the FIA, homologated our new Skoda Fabia R5. Now we want to see how competitive our new rally car is,” said Skoda Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek.
