First SUV by Seat.
The Seat Ateca made its public debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It will go on sale in the UK in September, at prices starting from £17,990 (INR 17.07 lakhs).
Based on the MQB platform of the Seat Leon (hatchback), the Ateca is the company's first attempt at an SUV. It competes with the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The Ateca borrows some mechanical parts from the new Volkswagen Tiguan. It is offered with two petrol and two diesel engines. The motors are, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged unit that produces 114 bhp, a 1.4-litre four-cylinder unit that develops 148 bhp (already seen in the Seat Leon and the VW Golf), a 1.6-litre unit that generates 114 bhp, and a 2.0-litre unit that will be offered in 148 bhp and 187 bhp states of tune.
Both petrol engines will be offered with six-speed manual transmissions. The smaller diesel motor is strictly Front-Wheel Drive and comes with a manual gearbox, while there are four versions with the 2.0 TDI - one with manual transmission and FWD, one with DSG and FWD, one with manual gearbox and All-Wheel Drive, and the flagship model with DSG and AWD. Only the range topping variant, DSG with AWD, gets the 187 bhp version of the 2.0 TDI.
The Seat Ateca has a similar interior to the Leon. It features an infotainment system with a five-inch display standard, the same with 6.5-inch and 8-inch screens will be available on subsequently higher variants, optional Seat Full Link system with connectivity to Apple and Android smartphones, and a wireless charging pad. The Ateca has a smaller boot than the VW Tiguan, with a capacity of 510 litres.
