The spy pic that we got you of a strange test mule being tested in Sweden is indeed from the Skoda stable. We predicted that Skoda is testing the so called ‘Felicia’ or in other words our new Octavia. Now Skoda has officially confirmed that it has started work on a sedan which will be exclusive to the ‘developing markets.’
Skoda might be tempted to make a sedan on the Fabia platform. There is also a good possibility of the Vento's platform being used for this new car.
At the annual press conference, Skoda chairman Winfried Krause confirmed a new sedan that will sit between the Fabia and Laura in the Skoda lineup. Although this sedan will eventually be made available in some European countries, it is mainly aimed at emerging markets, including India and China.
The demise of Octavia due to the BS4 norms has created a huge gap in the product portfolio. The portfolio starts with the Fabia hatchback at around 5 lakhs and then the next Skoda is the Laura at 14 lakhs. There is no C segment sedan in Skoda’s stable right now. Certainly, Skoda is loosing out on a huge and an emerging market segment.
However, Krause did not confirm whether the Felicia will be an entry level sedan in which case it will take on the likes of Indigo, Swift Dzire, Etios, etc OR will it be a C+ sedan in which case it will take on City, Vento, Linea, etc.
