Maruti-Suzuki's ‘Special Edition’ bug has bitten VW as well because yesterday VW launched a special edition model dubbed Vento IPL action edition. This special edition Vento symbolizes VW’s bullishness for the Indian car market. It also represents VW’s official partnership with IPL for the next 2 years.
The sport of cricket, widely considered as a religion in India, is a marketer’s gold pot. Thus, it was quite obvious that sooner or later a car company would harness this potential thoroughly. Ze Germans wanted this piece of action and in comes VW with the VW Vento IPL Action Edition (long name eh?)
In this special edition model, you get:
- Touch screen multimedia navigation system.
- Leather seats
- A garnish of IPL logos on the interior and exterior
- Some floor mats (again with IPL logos)
- And to top it all, a cricket bat and a ball
Mechanically, as you would imagine, everything remains the same except the fact that this Vento is only available in Petrol.
The price that you pay to make yourself look like a ‘Cricket-and-also-Car Enthusiast’ is 7.24 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi which is 34 thousand more than Vento’s base model. Sales begin 8th of April.
So here is our verdict: If you want to buy a sedan but your son wants a cricket kit and you want to kill 2 birds with one stone, the VW Vento IPL Action Edition is just the car for you :)

Volkswagen Introduces the Vento IPL Edition

Mumbai, March 10, 2011: Volkswagen today announced the introduction of a special edition of its popular model, the Vento, coinciding with Season 4 & 5 of the Indian Premier League.
With this launch Volkswagen brings its concept of action models into India. The Vento IPL Edition will be the first such model to be introduced in the Indian market and would pave the path for higher volume for the already popular model.
The Vento IPL Edition is loaded with a state-of-the-art colour touchscreen multimedia player that includes a navigation system among other things, plush leatherette seats and a host of specially branded accessories. All for a competitive price of Rs. 7.24 lakhs ex showroom New Delhi.
Apart from the special features that go into the car, Volkswagen will give all its Vento IPL Edition customers an apt gift of a cricket kit.
The cars will go on sale from the first week of April.
