The Nissan Terra that was unveiled in February and launched last month in China was announced in the Philippines today. Following the Philippines, a number of other Asian markets will get Nissan's new mid-size SUV.
Nissan has announced that it will sell the Nissan Terra in Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam also. Launch in Thailand and Indonesia will take place during this fiscal year. The Nissan Terra is certainly a potential product for India, where Nissan is struggling for sales. The company has said that it will launch eight new premium models by 2021, and maybe this SUV is one of those products. We are yet to have an official confirmation.
The Nissan Terra is 4.9 metres long, 1.9 metres wide and 1.8 metres tall. It has a 2.9-metre wheelbase. Depending on the market, it is available in a 5-seat version or a 7-seat version. Also varying as per the market, is the engine under the hood, QR25 2.5L petrol or YD25 2.5L diesel. The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 184 PS at 6,000 rpm and 251 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The turbocharged diesel engine develops 190 PS at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.
Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission. A 4WD system with a locking differential is available is optional. In configurations not equipped with a 4WD system, power goes solely to the rear wheels. The mid-size SUV offers 225 mm of ground clearance. It has a 32.3-degree approach angle and a 26.6-degree departure angle.
LED headlamps with LED DRLs, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, Zero Gravity front seats, one-touch remote fold & tumble second-row seats and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation are some of the noteworthy features of the Nissan Terra.
Key safety and driver assistance features of the mid-size SUV include seven airbags, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Around View Monitor.

Production of the Nissan Terra for markets other than China will take place in Thailand. If launched in India, the SUV will rival the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and the Isuzu MU-X. The upcoming new Honda CR-V will also be a potential rival.
