Mercedes-Benz has conducted the unveil of the Mercedes GLA compact crossover for the ASEAN region at the Bangkok Motor Show. The company has not put a timeline for its local introduction.
Essentially a rebodied A-Class with a higher ground clearance, the GLA had its Indian premiere at the 2014 Auto Expo in Noida last month, following its global reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The GLA is 4.4 m long, 1.8 m wide and 1.49 m tall, with a boot space of 421 liters (expands to 836 liters when the rear seats are down). The LED taillights and the twin-pipe exhaust system with chrome tips are the underlined features in the literature.
The cabin is adopted from the A-Class, but with different trims to differentiate the two cars.
The Thai market model is the GLA 200 which comes with the 1.6-liter gasoline engine that develops 156 PS @ 5,300 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,250-4,000 rpm.
The GLA Class is based on the Mercedes MFA architecture that has spawned a family of front-engined compact vehicles.
