Mercedes Benz will have five members in its small car family, the German auto maker's chairperson Mr Dieter Zetsche told reporters in India recently. Mr Zetsche was in Chennai to commission the commercial vehicle plant that manufactures trucks under the Bharat Benz brand.
He said the five members are A-Class, B-Class (left), production version of the CSC shown in Beijing (right), a crossover on the MFA Platform dubbed GLC and an unspecified model.
Mercedes is producing all five cars using the same component set and hopes the combined volumes will rocket it past the other two German brands by the end of the decade. They sit of the MFA (FWD architecture) Platform that debuted with the launch of the B-Class last year.
Meanwhile we Mercedes Benz India is gearing up for a busy second half as the M-Class and B-Class models are going to be locally manufactured. The M-Class will take the CKD route while the B-Class is expected to go through a more intense localization program in the coming years. The B-Class is the first of these five compact Mercedes models heading to India.
