The Maruti Ertiga has arrived to create a whole new segment of mini MPVs in India based on the Swift platform which has been lengthened to support a 3-row MPV.
A brand new 1.4L K Series petrol engine and the most successful diesel engine in India - 1.3L Multijet find their way into to hood. The pricing of the Ertiga has shown signs of working superbly. It has received around 400 bookings from Maharashtra on the first day of the launch.
The Ertiga is major step forward for Maruti Suzuki. Not only will the Ertiga create its own niche in India, the company also has plans to export the Ertiga to other South Asian markets. The first market to receive the Ertiga after India will be Indonesia. The export of the Ertiga to Indonesia will start in May.
Suzuki has about 3 percent market share in Indonesia and hopes to increase it in future with the launch of Ertiga in Indonesia. The Ertiga will be exported via the CKD route. In the Indonesian market it will be sold only with the 1.4 K- Series petrol engine competing against the leader Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia. Suzuki also sells the APV MPV in Indonesia but the Ertiga seems like a better match for the rivals.
