Maruti Suzuki has been the largest-selling car manufacturer in the Indian market since time immemorial. It is known for making and breaking sales records. In a recent development, the company has added another feather to the hat by selling over 19 lakh units of the Maruti Dzire since the first-gen model was launched in 2008. The Dzire has been among the most famous cars of its segment and has regularly found a place in the list of highest selling cars in the country.
The company sold more than 2.5 lakh units of the Dzire in the last fiscal year, and that makes for close to 21,000 units of average monthly sales, which is a huge number by all standards. Apart from the private customers, its popularity among commercial fleet owners is another reason for its massive 55% shares in the compact sedan segment.
Speaking on occasion, Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said:
The brand Dzire has been a major contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s journey and we express our gratitude to customers. A testimony to its strong customer connect is that the sales of the third-generation model went up by nearly 20 percent. Interestingly, for half of the new Dzire customers, the compact sedan is their first car purchase. This shows a paradigm shift of the Indian customers who are ready to start their car ownership with a sedan.
Under the hood, the Maruti Dzire comes with a 1.3-litre turbo-diesel and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The oil-burner churns out 55 kW (75PS) at 4000 rpm and 190Nm at 2000 rpm. Its petrol sipping heart delivers 61 kW (83 PS) at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
