This year will see the launch of the Maruti Ciaz mid-size sedan from India's largest carmaker. Maruti has always found it difficult to succeed in the mid-size and premium segments, and even with the SX4, sales fizzled out after the initial launch period.
A report on Autocar India says that the Ciaz will focus on rear seat comfort and will offer a luxury car-like cabin. Equipment wise, the Ciaz is expected to get more features than the SX4 it replaces.
Given that the Ciaz will be sold in markets like India and China with emphasis being on the rear seats, Suzuki engineers have fined tuned the sedan to offer a good back-seat experience. Improved ride quality, rigid mounting of suspension components and an overall length of over 4,545 mm (longer than the new Honda City) are some of the focus points of the Ciaz. The official interior sketch provides an early look at the cabin of the new Honda City rival.
The Ciaz was revealed in near production specification at the Beijing Motor Show last month. Previously, the concept was shown at the Auto Expo as the Concept Ciaz and at last year's Shanghai Auto Show as the Concept Authentics.
