ABS and dual airbags a first on the Alto.
Elsecom Automobile, the distributor for Suzuki cars in Algeria, has shown the new Maruti Alto K10 and an updated Maruti Alto 800 in Algeria. Both cars will be launched soon in the African market, and as yet, the prices are unannounced.
Focusing on the safety aspect, both cars are equipped with dual front airbags and ABS. ABS is a first on the Alto and Alto K10, as both cars have never offered it in the Indian market. Also, while the Alto 800 and K10 are optionally available with a driver-side airbag, dual-airbags are not on offer in India.
The interior seen on this Alto 800 is based on the new K10's. Except for the all-black theme (the K10 gets a dual-tone black-and-beige theme), there appears to be no changes. Maruti offers the same dashboard with a dual-din music system capable of CD/MP3/Aux-in, on the K10. Also on offer are height-adjustable headrests on the front seats, unavailable in India.
Badged as the 'new' Alto 800, its the Maruti Gurgaon plant which will supply the K10 and the 800 to the Algerian market in left-hand drive specification. No changes to the engines of these cars are reported. The three-cylinder 796 cc engine in the Alto 800 is good for 48 PS and 69 Nm of torque, while the three-cylinder 998 cc on the K10 develops 68 PS and 90 Nm, in the Indian specification.
