The Mahindra XUV500 automatic was launched yesterday, and the Hyundai Creta automatic is its closest rival. Here is a brief tech-spec comparo.
The 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine on the XUV500 AT produces 142 PS at 3,750 rpm and 330 Nm at 1,600-2,800 rpm, and delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 13.86 km/l. The 1.6-litre CRDi engine with VGT on the Hyundai Creta AT produces 128 PS at 4,000 rpm and 260 Nm at 1,900-2,750 rpm, and returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.01 km/l.
While both products are based on a monocoque platform, the XUV500 is a three-row mid-size SUV, whereas the Creta comes under the compact SUV segment. However, both products are equipped with a traditional torque-converter 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Creta AT is offered in only one variant, which is not the range-topping model. This means customers will have to miss out on side and curtain airbags, ESC, VSM, Hill Start Assist and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The XUV500 AT is offered in three versions -W8 (Front-Wheel Drive), W10 (Front-Wheel Drive) and W10 (All-Wheel Drive), and the top-end is generously equipped with 6 airbags, static bending headlights and a sunroof.
